WordPress Complete Book
February 10th, 2007 Filed in: Reviews, WordPress Jump to comments
Since I released my GlossyBlue theme, numbers of people have asked me how to install WordPress and get their blogs running. Well, here is a book I have recently read and would like to recommend it to you - WordPress Complete. This book is written for beginners who are not an IT expert, non-developer, and have no experience with WordPress.
This book will show you how to:
- Installing and configuring WordPress on a local development machine or a web hosting service
- Managing posts and comments
- Working with Image galleries, calendars, etc.
- Organizing users and Communities
- Creating and Installing themes to control the page layout
- Linking to the outside world - Feeds, Syndication, and Podcasting
- Customizing Widgets and Plug-ins
- Using WordPress as a regular CMS

Cool, Would you recommend it over the “WordPress 2: Visual QuickStart Guide”?
February 10th, 2007 at 7:22 am
personally I learnt everything from the wordpress codex! http://codex.wordpress.org (plus its free! ;) )
February 10th, 2007 at 10:20 am
I have not much experience with wordpress but like Han says I think the codex would be the best place to look for a free information source. However, if you prefer reading from a book then the WordPress Complete Book sounds awesome.

Han: I learnt from codex too…
oliver: You can always print all information you need from codex…

Hey Nick, how good was the last section on using Wordpress as a CMS? I’m interested in having a good hard copy resource (though I love the codex) for getting good at using WP as a CMS for my client. Any other book recommendations from anyone related to that topic?
February 11th, 2007 at 12:18 am
I agree with everyone here, I learned my WordPress skills from codex too. This book is only good for beginners who prefer to read printed guide.
February 11th, 2007 at 7:31 am
So you would say that it’s the same content that is presented at the codex?
February 11th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I’m not sure about this. Cause as the others have said, the codex is the best place to start really.
February 11th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
It just depends on your own preferences I guess :D

[…] The site that helped influence my decision to go with WordPress posted a link to a book for beginners about WordPress here. The book looks pretty good, but most people who have commented the site have mentioned that they learned everything they needed to know from the codex. […]

Oh my god, finally, I installed wordpress to my webpage. I was afraid to try to do this myself because I was afraid of the failure. The installation instructions on WordPress site was really overwhelming, but in the end the process was simple. I actually followed the steps at http://laughingsquid.net/tutorials/wordpress_install.php.

great design! and oh where can i get or download this book? anyone?
April 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Adam,
Personally, I much prefer WordPress Complete over Visual QuickStart. Both are really aimed at a beginner level and as several others have stated, you can find all the same information in the codex. However, if you’re like me and prefer a printed format that you can follow page by page, chapter by chapter, WordPress Complete is for you. It’s slightly more technical than the VQS book but you won’t be overwhelmed with techy jargon.
Hope that helps,
Steve

Yea you are right. This book is great. It’s much better than the Visual Quick Start Guide. Every thing the VQS gave you could be found easily at the WP Codex. How ever, WordPress Complete made the workings of WP easy to understand there fore easy to making any WP theme your own. A must read for any WP user/developer.
