UT Grand Prix 2009 T-shirt Design Competition
Deadline: September 21, 2008
Based on the concept of “T-shirt Design Olympics”, UT Grand Prix calls for T-shirt designs from young & upcoming creators from all over the world. Works will be chosen from more than 10,000 submissions in the first and second phases of judgment, & these will be shown on the web. In the final stage, 20 designs will be selected by presiding guest judges, & these designs will then be sold as UT (UNIQLO T-shirt) at UNIQLO stores. Cash & other prizes will be also presented to the winner(s). The Grand Prix (top) prize is 3 million JPY (or equivalent in local currency at current rates)… via SHIFT

Shapeways & Dutch Design Week - Every Day Design
Deadline: September 21, 2008
Shapeways, has just announced a new design contest in conjunction with Dutch Design Week http://www.dutchdesignweek.nl/index.php?lang=en, the premier design event in the Netherlands. Together with TNO - a Dutch research institution - and five talented designers – from Studio Thol, Kocx Ontwerpen, PeLiDesign, Wouter Scheublin and Design Drift - Shapeways will showcase an exhibit called Virtual Looking which will be a series of lectures and master classes on the possibilities of rapid manufacturing.

The theme of the contest is: Every Day Design. The contest is looking for a completely unique everyday object. Perhaps something from your home that no one has ever considered. The possibilities are endless. To enter: simply upload your design to Shapeways and add the tag DDW to it. You can submit designs to the contest until Sunday the 21st of September 12:00 CET.

Don’t Panic & 3 Mobile - Street Work Design Competition
Deadline: September 28, 2008
3 Mobile and Don’t Panic are looking for a designer to create a poster as part of a street ad campaign, and there’s a prize of £500 ($900). "We wanted to organise a competition that allowed artists and creative types as much freedom as possible, while still creating a visual message which related to 3’s mobile dongle. We want you to create a personal, unique piece of work representing freedom, communication, locality or whatever you can draw from 3’s mobile-broadband Dongle. You can take any part of it as your inspiration: it’s name, it’s functionality, it’s colour scheme, mobilisation, the internet, whatever."

PSDTUTS - "Solving Poverty" Button Design Contest
Deadline: September 28, 2008
This is a fun contest to support this years Blog Action Day theme, raise awareness about the issues surrounding global poverty, and empower designers to make a positive difference in the world. Learn all about the contest and how to enter at the jump!

HOW Design - Poster Design
Deadline: December 1, 2008
Introducing the newest design showcase from HOW magazine: the HOW Poster Design Awards! There are no categories, and it doesn’t matter if your poster was created for yourself, for work or just for fun…we want to see what you can do! So take this wide-open media and run with it.

Project Never
Deadline: December 1, 2008
Project Never is a free awards competition created by graphic designers for graphic designers. Thousands of effective designs die each day – often for good reason. At the same time, successful designers and agencies generate many worthy ideas for each project or campaign, only one of which gets chosen for wider audiences. Project Never honors the most creative design concept that never reached production.

ScreenBurn at SXSW Game Design Competition
Deadline: December 5, 2008
New for 2009 is the ScreenBurn at SXSW Game Design Competition, which provides a venue for emerging designers to pitch their concept to a jury of established professionals. Participants in this event are challenged to excite the imagination with a description of the game they want to build. These proposals are entirely conceptual — but tight organization is a must as these entries cannot exceed 200 words in length.

    Whoa, so many competitions. I have virtually no chance of becoming a finalist [just being realistic about my own abilities], but I’ll enter anyway. Sounds like fun. =D
