iTheme IE Bugs Fixed
April 25th, 2007 Filed in: News & Updates Jump to comments
Most of you should probably notice there are some Internet Explorer 6 bugs (CSS rendering issues) in my iTheme. I finally fixed those IE6 bugs by re-designing the theme and CSS styles. Instead of displaying the file icon of each post, it is now displaying the date in a calendar icon, which is very similar to GlossyBlue theme. Also the comment list is now using gray background color instead of color stroke. Download the updated iTheme or preview WordPress Demo.
Upcoming Features
Here are some of the cool features that I want to add to the future release of iTheme:
- CSS style switcher
- Ajax live search
- Ajax comments
- Mac style CSS dock menu
- Any suggestions?

Well, i havent noticed earlier, but i think i am gonna check it now.
But iTheme is really very nice theme, its outstanding work.
April 25th, 2007 at 4:54 am
Great work, I love iTheme. When you first released it, I tried to put the date in the calendar icon myself, but it looks like you’ve beaten me to it ;)
Your skills are amazing. Greetings from Slovenia/Europe
April 25th, 2007 at 5:12 am
first of all i’d like to thanks you for the WP itheme because it’s the best theme i’ve seen till now. second you inspired me for doing my blog. third your blog is fantastic and riches with many stuff, i’ve learned from it many things.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:35 am
Great job! I do like your iTheme and I am waiting for the future release! Greetings from China.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:46 am
Really nice theme. The movable menu items is pretty swell! :-)
April 25th, 2007 at 7:28 am
I love it now, the calander is the finishing touch :D
great theme ;)
I hope I’ll see more themes from you :)
April 25th, 2007 at 7:31 am
I loved iTheme from the first view, great job!
But still… I have a question. Perhaps it’s just my own sillyness, but is there a way to get iTheme to show the “Site Admin” link in the Meta Widget? At least in my case I only get the “Log out” link.
Thanks in advance!
MJ

MatrixJumper,
If you are using widgets, open functions.php and add the following tag to the meta <ul> list:
<li><?php wp_register(”, ”); ?></li>
April 25th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Looks Great as always. I love this theme.
April 25th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Looks great, good work! Just a couple of things to note…
1) In IE 6 / Win XP Pro, there’s no gray “header” background for the widget headers (just the text over the blue “global” background). There’s also no orange / green button (although the widgets do what they’re supposed to, if you know where to click / drag).
2) I’d give my eye teeth for a fluid width version of this theme.
3) Thanks for making the single-post view of a post look like the index page view — much cleaner!

Hey there,
I love the new calendar version. 1 query though, my calendar doesn’t appear. My date shows in text format, not sure why. Is there a setting I must change in admin for the calendar to appear with the date?
April 25th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Another thing I’ve noticed with the demo is the category is listed under the post title. That is where my date is showing with no calendar. Would appreciate some help. Thanks.
April 25th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Hey Nick,
How do you make all of these themes? Do you have some kind of book that you follow? If so what is it? The sidebar with customizable modules are awesome!
April 25th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Thanks for removing the file icon from pages. Looks better without it.
As for suggestions, I’d love to see this background in different colors, maybe even with a color switcher, a la Say It 2.0.

April 25th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
@ Sam Wise
I confirm your report. Under IE 6/XP-Pro, the sidep-handle wents away when you click in the button arera - as well as all buttons. Thats still a problem.
April 25th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
@Nick: Thank you very much! It worked, so I definitely have my new Theme :)
April 25th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
Request > Highlight sub categories when you are viewing one ! currently the menu bar highlights the page you are in, but when you go into a sub page then nothing is highlighted.. the parent page and sub cat should be highlighted if you know what i mean ;) nice one. Looking forward to more ajax goodies.
April 26th, 2007 at 2:00 am
I am using the new iTheme 1.1, and am wondering exactly where to place the code for the wp-print or other scripts so that they display on the page in between the catagory and add comments section at the top of the page above the content. I can get them to display in the right section but the spacing is off big time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
April 26th, 2007 at 4:22 am
it’s more pretty than the first version!
April 26th, 2007 at 5:57 am
Hi!
It is nicer too, indeed. I want to ask you how could I make nested categories to display as a tree or something to not look flat, like all the other categories.
April 26th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Love the update, nice job!
Only odd issue is that in Safari, the search button shows up as a generic form button with just the letter “G” on it. Is anyone else having this issue??
Thanks for the update!
Robin.
April 26th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Sorry, but this is nothing to do with this, but i have just come accross a site that looks extremly like ndesign-studio. The theme and everything. Have a look round the site…
http://www.maxspeeds.com
It looks like a replica of n design studio but without the good graphics at the top.
April 26th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Robin,
I can confirm what you’re seeing — the button width needs to be increased from 24 to 36 pixels to see the word “Go” in Safari. This is an easy tweak, and doesn’t seem to break anything in other browsers.
April 27th, 2007 at 3:00 am
A very nice theme . . . and now even better.
April 27th, 2007 at 5:04 am
I solved my problem, stupid me!
April 27th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Thank you! The last fix did it, and the calendar icon kind of set the dot over the i. :) I will keep following your work. BTW someone should yell at maxspeeds for copying your work.. I recent maxspeeds’ copying.
April 27th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Hello, any input regarding the calendar issue? I still haven’t managed to get it to load.
ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM??? PLEASE HELP
April 27th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Naomi- I looked at your site, and it doesn’t look like the calendar.gif or the mini-category.gif icon are loading. Make sure you didn’t delete them when you made other changes to the images. They should be in the images folder with the rest. You might be able to fix it just by re-uploading those two images. If they’re where they’re supposed to be, though, check your style.css. The call for the calendar icon is listed under ‘.post .date’, and the call for the mini-category icon is under ‘.postdata .category’.
If those are correct, you may need to re-download the whole zip to get a ‘fresh start’. Looks like you’ve done some extensive alterations. You may have gotten rid of something without realizing it.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
any chance that there will be a 3 column version?
April 27th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Love the theme! Great job. I am fairly new to this and I have one question…
How do I change the META info? I would like to add a “Register” and “Admin” link.
Thank you.
April 27th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Thanks Matt, I took your advise and uploaded a fresh copy. It now works perfectly. Thanks again.
April 27th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Thanks Sam Wise! One question, where do I go to do that? I can see searchform.php and it has a “go” variable for the button, but there is no size specified, so I don’t know the syntax.
I am a lowly history teacher…
Thanks for the help!
Robin.
April 28th, 2007 at 4:19 am
Hi Matt - as Sam Wise told you before, under IE 6/XP-Pro, the sidep-handle wents away when you click in the button arera, and there are also no orange/green buttons. This problem still persists.
April 28th, 2007 at 7:05 am
This is what I need, thank you.
April 28th, 2007 at 8:06 am

April 28th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Hy there nice theme but it has a bug , this theme can`t show Summary on the front page

April 28th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
The Itheme is frantastic. Question. My categories for links to other Blogs no longer works, they’re all lumped together. How do I fix this?
Thanks!
April 28th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
Robin,
In style.css, here’s what you want to look for:
#searchform #searchsubmit {
background: url(images/search-btn.png) no-repeat left top;
height: 24px;
width: 24px;
April 29th, 2007 at 12:02 am
Nick,
Nice update - got my changes mapped back in and I’m up and running with 1.1
Thanks,
Shane.
April 29th, 2007 at 1:07 am
Perfect . You are a best designer . ^^! . I am a student in VietNam , cant buy theme ( don’t have Credit Card ) , I thank you very much . ^^!
April 29th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Thanks again SamWise…. worked like a charm.
If you have a sec would you just confirm that all is fixed: http://www.mistercitrin.com/blog
Also, do you like the sticky on top of the sidebar or is it too cheesy?
Thanks again!
Robin.
April 29th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
I wondering if iTheme have recent posts, recent comments, and about in the bottom of the page (footer).
April 29th, 2007 at 11:30 pm
Robin — your site looks fine in Safari and Firefox on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.4.9. In IE, it’s got the usual problems for the theme. Hopefully Nick can free up a bit of time to chase these…
Annmolly — iTheme doesn’t seem to support Recent Posts / Recently Commented / About in the footer, but the GlossyBlue theme does. Maybe somebody can put pieces of the two themes together to make a “frankentheme” that does this for you? I’d take a run at it , but I’m spending my time trying to modify iTheme to make a fluid-width variant…
Sam

I very like this amazing theme! But I have a question: When you’ve installed this theme you’ve got on the right ‘Categories’, ‘Archives’, ‘Links’ and ‘Meta’. When I see the Demo you’ve got also ‘Theme Switcher’ and ‘Feed from N.Design’. How can I add this too??
Thanks in advance.
April 30th, 2007 at 11:54 am
well frankly speaking, i am not as much impressed with itheme as i am impressed with phoenix, please dont have it different way, i am compairing now. Phoenix is really a great work, its a beautiful combination of design and codings, both. I was trying to figure out how you made it and its really a mistry for me. Your work is solid.
April 30th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Ferre,
in order to view those boxes, you need to install plugins. You can find many theme switcher plugin on google or better try wordpress.org
April 30th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
This theme really kicks ass!
What about tag support (like UTW or Simple Tagging) for the next release? ;-)
May 1st, 2007 at 2:35 am
Is there any way to display the year at the bottom of the calendar icon?
May 1st, 2007 at 3:29 am
I’ve also been interested in placing a custom banner graphic where the main title would go. Where in the CSS can I insert the location of the title jpg?
May 1st, 2007 at 9:04 am
A very good work! Compliments!
May 1st, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Hi, I found a CSS error in the theme where the white font in the selected tab wouldn’t display in Firefox.
I have wrote a quick tutorial for those who have installed and wouldn’t want the trouble of reinstalling it or wait for the next release.
Here’s the link:
http://www.mangoorange.com/2007/05/01/itheme-navbar-css-bug/
Hope this will be fix in the next version. Thanks for the wonderful theme, I must say. :)
May 1st, 2007 at 5:46 pm

May 2nd, 2007 at 5:15 am
Saus, check out http://www.lesterchan.net/blogs/ He has neat plugins, like Online users. Its very easy to implement. I use it at my blog. He also have a top read posts/pages plugin which is also very neat.

iTheme 1.1 is a fabulous theme, but it fails to select hovered page tag (when the cursor hovers over “Guestbook” & “Community” page tag, nothing happens while using FireFox to surf my weblog http://lichen.ifastnet.com It works fine with IE, though. Any help is appreciated!
May 3rd, 2007 at 2:29 pm
What I meant by “page tag” is in other words the tags in Navbar. I used Opera to check it, same problem.
May 3rd, 2007 at 8:05 pm
OMG GUYS
SOMEBODY RIPPED THIS SKIN
AND PUT IT ON WWW.E-BIH.COM U GOT TO SEE THIS
May 4th, 2007 at 4:09 am
WTF, i didnt know that its possible to rip all the theme. But after looking these websites, i am pretty sure that it is possible but its not ethical. I mean this guy didnt even changed log, images and even link. nothing is safe these days.
I wonder how could we protect our designs.
May 4th, 2007 at 4:16 am

I use your iTHEME.It was impressed by the template of a wonderful quality. I want to enjoy and to
use it.
May 4th, 2007 at 10:19 am
Thanks for a great theme. We modified the graphics on our site as you can see. However, we are still having problems with IE6 and displaying columns side by side. We believe we have updated to your fixed version. Perhaps you might wish to enclose alternate sets of graphics in some upcoming version.
Richard
May 4th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
Its a great piece of work and i really appreciate that Nick share it with us.

and last but not the least please give a full credit to him for his work and atlease give a link back to his website.
May 4th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
good!
May 4th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Can someone tell me how to replace the site name displayed in the header to my own custom graphic? I want to replace it with a company logo with PNG transparency.
May 4th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
@jasonh1234
in order to use your own graphics logo. edit this file named header.php. search for this.
“>
and replace it with
“>/images/logo.gif” />
where logo.gif is your logo file in itheme images folder. It will show you logo in place of text but you need to make adjustments.
May 4th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
sorry for last post, it didnt come right, i think nick has enabled php run plugin.
in order to use your own graphics logo. edit this file named header.php. search for this.
<h1><a href="<?php echo get_settings(’home’); ?>"><?php bloginfo(’name’); ?></a></h1>
<div class="description"><?php bloginfo(’description’); ?></div>
and replace it with
<a href="<?php echo get_settings(’home’); ?>"><img src="<?php bloginfo(’stylesheet_directory’); ?>/images/logo.gif" /></a>
where logo.gif is your logo file in itheme images folder. It will show you logo in place of text but you need to make adjustments.
May 4th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
To clarify my posting earlier today. IE6 is still pushing my right column down below by left column even though we have updated to the latest iTheme version. Anyone able to help? See what I mean at www.effectivebiblestudy.com.
May 4th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
Thank you, Roshan, for your post about changing out the text header for an image. That is something we needed. We went a step further and actually incorporated our logo into the background image.
May 4th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
@ Richard,
i think i understood your problem. you need to make some changes in css file. find for #wrapper in style.css and make width to 790px or some number till its works ok.
May 4th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
Roshan, thanks again for your generous help! Your solution was sufficient to correct the IE6 display problem.
May 4th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Richard, i am glad i could help you. you know why was you having this problem. Its because of shopping cart menu. Actually you have done alot of div’s there with some width and padding which made its width more. so you need to increase the whole width a little bit more. but if you notice there that shopping cart menu is not aligned to others.
May 4th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
this is the most beautiful theme i have ever seen, but i think there is a problem with WP Lightbox JS plugin. It does not show the loading animator while loading a picture and also does not show close at the end of the opened screen.
you can check it from “http://www.bulogum.com/index.php/wordpress/sitenizin-haritasini-olusturun/” by clicking third picture on the page.
thanks anyway, as i said before best of best wordpress theme =)
May 5th, 2007 at 3:46 am
Hi, I’m wondering how to add a recent comment block into the iTheme’s sidebar, can you show me how to do it please?
May 5th, 2007 at 4:02 am
Ian,
you need to install a plugin for that. there are many plugins to show recent comments, search on wordpress.org and pick a suitable plugin for yourself.
May 5th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
One suggestion for improvements is to make it so when there are too many links on the top menu bar thing and it wraps down it well mucks up a bit (a gap appears and it looks strange etc) so something fixing that would be great… but other than that the theme is brilliant, I absolutely love it :D
May 6th, 2007 at 4:49 am
Someone on my site requested to have a 3 columns iTheme, so I modified it for him. Now I’m sharing with all of you. You can check it out here.
May 6th, 2007 at 5:54 am
Tobeon, u can try to minimize cluttering with the pages by creating subpages. i-theme does that very nicely :)
May 6th, 2007 at 6:15 am
True it does, but again if I have too many sub pages it plays up again.
May 6th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Mickeyckm.. Great, thx for that 3 column version. Just what I like to see.. creative flow :)
May 7th, 2007 at 1:08 am
traxen: You are most welcome. :)
May 7th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Guys, sorry that I accidentally removed the widget support for i3Theme. It’s fixed and available now.

Just one way of adding “Recent Comments & Posts” functionalities to iTheme sidebar (inspired by GlossyBlue)
http://lichen.ifastnet.com/2007/05/08/add-recent-articles-comments-functionalities-to-itheme/
May 10th, 2007 at 5:14 am
What about a new version with the fantastic dock included? ;D
Thanks from germany, Oli
May 11th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Thanks for the fix. Since I have replaced most of the graphics to match my site, could you please indicate, for those like me, the list of files that have been updated, added, etc., so I can do a simple update. Great theme, BTW, and you have real talent. :)
May 12th, 2007 at 10:01 am
How can you add the ability to read/post comments on pages as well as blog posts?
May 13th, 2007 at 2:47 am

I have a question that bothers me for a few days. Can anyone please help me.
I find that on the iTheme, when a single post is clicked, the active status is not showing. But if a page is clicked, the tab (such as blog, about ect) will be active.
what I mean is on this website, if you click any links under the portfolio tab, the portfolio tab is always active.
Can anyone please explain the methodology of that please.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:26 am
Hey, first i love this theme but i didn’t found a Trackback function. do u can edit this, than it were mostly perfect. cya
May 16th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
I just upgraded to WordPress 2.2 and the plugin “Secure and Accessible PHP Contact Form” is causing a conflict with the Docking Boxes in IE ONLY. My guess is that the problem is related to the jQuery that comes bundled in 2.2.
The sidebar boxes aren’t movable and the ‘lights’ on the bars aren’t showing up. Again, this seems to be IE only, or at least everything’s fine for me in Firefox. I don’t know if there’s a conflict with other plugins, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Still loving iTheme.
May 18th, 2007 at 3:48 am
I have the same problem as Matt. But i am running WP 2.1.2. Can’t use Docking Boxes in IE 7. Some one out there with an solution?
Thanks for the great theme.
May 18th, 2007 at 6:19 am
Yes It works perfectly with WP 2.2!
Thank you guys!!!
May 18th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Hi Nick!
I’m using your iTheme, and I recently discovered that when I’m using Wordpress stats (that adds a smiley face to your template), it displaces the background image, and so showing only the background color. I can also notice a little something between the top of the main content and the top of the sidebar.
This happens in Firefox 2.0.0.3, Internet Explorer 7 and Opera. The only difference is that in IE the background image shows, and in Opera, you can actually see the smiley between the two columns.
Hope you can help me to figure this out, because I’m clueless!
Thanks a lot!!
by the way… great design! ;)
May 19th, 2007 at 9:33 am
I was wondering how (and if) it would be possible to add user pictures by comments (so they link possibly with their wordpress.com pictures or whatever)
May 20th, 2007 at 7:10 am
Hi, absolutely great Theme! but there is a problem with CSS on Safari! Best to see on http://mizine.de/?p=349 Long Headers destroys the contents layout!
May 20th, 2007 at 7:34 am
I have removed the navigation bar, so you are able to see the BUG here: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/vreesh/internet/Bild1-5.png
May 21st, 2007 at 12:33 pm
My new site is up and running, using iTheme (MangoOrange’s columnized version i3Theme). Also added “Recent Posts” & “Recent Comments” to the sidebar (not using widgets; inspired by Nick’s GlossyBlue).

May 24th, 2007 at 4:01 am
Hi! I am using your iTheme. Very nice one btw!
I am having problems with it when embedding youtube videos. Have a look: http://www.glatzopatzo.de/2007/04/28/huehnchen-am-samstag/
As editor I use chenpress and I copied the embedding code withour any changes into the source code. Have a look at the source code of the entry. I can’t tell you why it doesnt work. In the other theme I used tp use (goldengrey) it is displayed correctly.
May 24th, 2007 at 4:49 am
Glatzo: Try to use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/ for quick and easy managment of youtube and other video services to be embedded into your blog. I use it for google video and its been flawless.
May 24th, 2007 at 9:26 am
Hi Nick, I’ve got a suggestion.
How about offering a 3-column option for the next release? Especially with a search-engine friendly layout that goes:
main–>sidebar1–>sidebar2
as opposed to MangoOrange’s i3theme which looks like:
sidebar1–>main–>sidebar2
Also, without wishing to besmirch MangoOrange’s hard work, there’re a bug in i3theme that breaks the “prev/next entry” navigation.
Thanks for listening!
May 24th, 2007 at 9:27 am

One more thing; the “recent posts” widget appears to malfunction when several plugins are installed, i.e. “Jerome’s Search” and “WP-Email”. Not sure if this is because of iTheme, but it hasn’t happened on other themes I’ve tried.

@TRAXEN: Thanks for the tip! But I can’t use the plugin because I use Chenpress as rich editor plugin and I don’t know how to integrate these buttons in it. They don’t show up independently from it because the rich editor usage has to be turned off in the profile settings.
Guess I will have to use god’ol hyperlink instead of ugly embedded videos…

I love the look and feel of iTheme, thanks for letting so many other people enjoy it too.
I do, however, have one issue I keep running into. When I put a new post up my sidebar drops to the bottom. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?

I passed by a very neat plugin today that I thought would be very nice with itheme. Was wondering if anyone had seen this before and pondered in the same direction :)

Great (maybe best?) theme and also BIG thanks for fixing IE6 problems. I don’t use that thing, but when I saw it on my girlfriend’s machine in M$IE, I was shocked.
I did small change with PNGfix for IE, so I have transparent PNG used as logo! Check the code in my page! PNG workaround mostly works. If there is problem in IE, reload fixes it. Strange browser. It also works in Win98/IE6. I let it run in virtual box inside my PC :)

I’ve translated the theme to Arabic language, which goes from right to left, but the first widget is always missing the right corner image….
Tried my best, to no avail… I think it’s buried deep in the Javascript thingy…

I have to thank you for this contribution to the beauty of the blogosphere.
I was so impressed that I translated it to Brazilian Portuguese.
Hope you success!

By the way, the Brazilian Portuguese version can be downloaded here:

I am just completing a blog site that is currently in a development area of my website. The issue is that the highlighted Menu item that shows you which page you are currently on works fine, except for the Blog page (which was pointed out to me recently). I can’t understand why this would be the case, as it makes no logical sense???
Can you please take a look at the problem and let me know your thoughts…?

hello, I tried to change the background image but when I see what had become, the image occupied half of the blog, the other half appears in blue. How can I solve this?
