Two New Illustrations

It has been a while since last time I drew any illustration (traditional and digital). Finally, I have two new pieces that I would like to share. These two illustrations were presented in the design conference (Future of Web Design 2008) in New York (check out the presentation slides to see the design process). The first piece is called Abstract Peacock and the second one is Abstract Phoenix. You can download a high resolution jpg of the new illustrations for your desktop wallpaper.

@klara - they take about 20 to 30 hours (per illustration).

I really like your use of colour in your designs they are so striking and have a lot of depth, do you already know what the end is going to look like or does it just develop as the design unfolds?

I really like these designs. Have you been working with vectors in Illustrator for a long time? I’m new to illustration but your drawings are an inspiration. I love the use of colour, and the compositions are beautiful.

I really like the top one. Makes me wanna do something in this amazing springtime weather Chicago is having. It would also look great as a tattoo on a women I think. The bottom one scares me. I work at this web design studio and this guy Jon scares me sometimes. That picture makes me think that’s how his brain works.

There is so much going on here, everything from Art Noveau to colors reminiscent of a lot of Tibetan paintings. I love AN, and love Tibetan art, so these are working for me. I responded especially strongly to the second one. The dark, stormy quality drew me in.
