iTheme Release
April 7th, 2007 Filed in: WordPress, News & Updates Jump to comments
Many people have been waiting for this WordPress theme for a while and I’m very proud that iTheme has finally released. iTheme is a WordPress theme that is specially designed for the Mac OS lovers. The best part about this theme is the customizable sidebar. You can drag & drop each box to rearrange the way you like or simply collapse it to hide the content you don’t want to see. It will store the state of each box in a cookie, this means it will remember your preference next time you come back. Check out my WordPress Demo to preview. Download iTheme now and let me know me your feedbacks. This is an initial release, comments and suggestions are welcome to post here.
Update
Apr 8, 2007
Someone has reported a bug which cause the PHP errors in functions.php file. For those who experiencing the PHP errors, please download and replace the updated functions.php in the iTheme package.

Hi, I really love your new theme and I guess I’ll have to install WP now [ and say goodbye to my Typo blog ].
Anyway, I did experience some minor issues with IE 6 [ yes, I still use it ] and I’ve sent you a mail with some images.
Thanks again.

Nice theme Nic,
Recently converted to Mac and I must say your theme is true to the OSX :)
Maybe something to try in your next release will be to make the “Spotlight” search field a live search box so it works just like the OSX one. Get some ideas here http://www.eoghanobrien.com/
Good work man! Keep it up
PS: Do you ever sleep??
April 7th, 2007 at 9:32 am

Amin / Stewie - what version of WordPress are you using?
Jeannette - yes, there are some CSS rendering issues with IE6 bugs. Unfortunately, I don’t have the solution yet.

I got a problem with posting blog links. Something with header and the function page.
April 7th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
I get that same error - I cant even log in - I had to go into the database to manually change the template back so i could have access to my admin CP:

April 8th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
For those experiencing PHP errors in functions.php file, please download and replace the functions.php file in the theme package: http://www.ndesign-studio.com/resources/wp-themes/itheme/
There were whitespaces in the PHP code which cause the errors. It is now fixed.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

April 8th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

April 8th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
How can I get the calendar block?
April 8th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
It would be nice if it can with an “easy color switcher” like some of the other tempaltes because I’d like to play around with the colors. Can you add that as a feature?
April 9th, 2007 at 2:34 am

Screenshot here: http://flickr.com/photos/16961405@N00/453705399/
April 10th, 2007 at 6:17 am
Wow, this really good work… I love the colors ^_* and the icon too
April 10th, 2007 at 7:17 am
Very great theme. Can u make a 3-colum with this theme?
April 10th, 2007 at 7:20 am
Fantastic Theme! Congratulations!
I love it like i loved your other Theme “Glossy Blue”.
I will translate it to german.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:52 am
That helped some with IE6, but as a previous poster pointed out, the bottoms of sections are still wonky..
Also, could you make the post width 500? Glossy Blue worked really well with being 500 wide (or whatever it was >= 500), as Flickr’s medium sized photos are 500 wide..
Still the best theme I’ve seen for any of the sites, and I look forward to running it on my blog..
Oh, one last request.. Do you have the PSD for the background? If not, I’ll probably just make one..
April 10th, 2007 at 8:49 am
Is there a way I can shutn the title of the blog over so that I can squeeze a small logo in there?
I have no coding experience, but happy to have a got at cut and pasting code.
Can anyone help you’re my only chance.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:30 am
I think this is the best wordpress theme I’ve seen.. at least one of them. Great job :D
April 10th, 2007 at 11:37 am

April 10th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Dear Nick,
first of all: this is one of the coolest theme i´ve ever seen. But I got a problem and hopefully you can help me to fix it. For my site the navigation-bar in the header is unnecessary. I´ve got everything i want in the sidebar. So for, so good. But i can´t delete the navigation bar. If i want to do it, my hole header explore in thousends of letters. I try it in the header.php which doesn´t work. Have you any idea and do you understand the problem in spite of my bad english. Best wishes, Mathias
April 10th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Mathias Richel - if you don’t want to display the menu navigation, follow these steps:
1. open header.php
2. remove the <ul>…….</ul> tag in between the <div id="nav">
April 11th, 2007 at 5:58 am
Looks great!!
April 11th, 2007 at 6:07 am

April 11th, 2007 at 6:59 am
Jolie :)!
Je pense que tu devrais aussi le mettre en template xhtml/css
Bonne continuation
April 11th, 2007 at 8:44 am
Nick,
The theme is great and I hope to implement it on my bog. But, is there a way I can shunt the title of the blog over so that I can squeeze a small logo in there next to the text?
I have no coding experience, but happy to have a got at cut and pasting code.
thanks…
April 11th, 2007 at 10:09 am

I’m currently using this theme and your other glossyblue theme. i love your work and just wanted to say you have my respect. keep it up!! nothing but pure talent.
April 12th, 2007 at 8:58 am
As always Nick, a great piece of work! I initially began my blogs life with your GlossyBlue Advanced theme, but now that you have created iTheme, I have fallen in love (so to speak). Lol.
You continue to bring awesome blog templates and I can’t wait to see your future creations. This, with some slight adjustments, will be my template for my blog for quite a while (until you release another one which I like).
Great work and keep it up Nick!
April 12th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Je viens de faire une traduction en Français de ce superbe thème. Pour ceux que ça pourrait intéresser, elle se télécharge ici : http://wordpress-tuto.fr/theme-itheme-ajax-75
April 12th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Is there any live tests of this?
April 13th, 2007 at 5:34 am
Hi,
I’ve just loaded this theme on my website and made a few alterations - I hope this is OK (I still make it clear on my “what makes this work” page that this theme is yours with slight mods by me).
Mods I’ve made:
- Support for Gravatars2
- Support for Share This
- Support for WP-Print
- Support for Menu Management (with Login/Admin auto-button)
- Added customer header logo
Overall I love the theme - it’s clean, not overtly “Mac” but has the vibe. Thanks so much!
Regards,
Shane.
April 13th, 2007 at 6:40 am

Anyway great theme.
April 13th, 2007 at 6:45 am
Wow, love the theme! One question however, for some reason the background doesn’t quite work on my site (the image is there but the gradient isn’t so everything around the image is just a blue colour) anyone have any ideas?
April 13th, 2007 at 6:49 am
Wait never mind! found the problem! Never Mind!

To Shane, you shouldn’t have removed Nick’s copyright info. Thats going against the terms you agreed to when you downloaded his theme.

Mike,
I haven’t removed it - I’ve moved it.
If you look in the same place as where those links were, there is now “Click here to find out what makes shasam.net run”, which links to here:

As you can see on this page - the exact same text and links are provided.

It’s not normal while show on IE6
Anyone solove it ?
April 14th, 2007 at 8:01 am
Fantastic theme, love it.
I’ve installed it and I seem to be getting a random bug next to the Blogroll.
I’m also not getting the move boxes of close boxes functionality working, any ideas?
April 14th, 2007 at 8:06 am
I’ve managed to get the siedbar blocks to move and close, with the exception of the Blogroll and I’m still getting the unexplained bullet against it.
April 14th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Sorry then, by the way… I’m converting the nDesign phpBB template to work with phpBB3! Its not done yet but you can see where I am here:
http://www.goldmatte.net/olympus/
April 14th, 2007 at 11:48 am
Excellent theme!
Is there a FAQ or forum for this theme? I’m a coding newbie and just want to change two things, but don’t know how:
1. I want to change the hyperlinked blog title in the header to a hyperlinked graphic.
2. I want to change the main page header (which links to home and any pages that the theme can find, using K2 theme code) so that it shows Home but then, instead of pages it finds, I want it to link to specific pages I specify in the header file itself.
Any help would be appreciated.
April 14th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Using it on my website.
Great theme!
April 14th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Absolutely love the theme. Beautiful and abstract without being too busy. I’m having trouble with two things, though. I’d really appreciate your (or anyone’s, really) help.
First, I had three headings within the body of one of the pages that were formatted as h2. When I switched to itheme, the headings jumped up to the header one on top of another. I switched them to h3 and they went back where they were supposed to go. Fixed, but something you might want to look into.
Second, the drag/drop sidebar functions aren’t working on my site. It’s working when I try it on your demo and on the other sites that have switched to itheme, but not on mine. The icons aren’t even showing up in the sidebar handle. I’ve tried with both FF2.0.0.3 and IE6, and on both work and home computers, and the problem is commuting with me. I just re-downloaded the zip and checked it against my directory, and everything’s there.
Is there something else I need to download, or am I missing something? Again, thanks for the help and for the tremendous theme.
April 14th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Great looking theme, when are you going to port it to Drupal?
April 15th, 2007 at 3:19 am
Cool - just got some dynamic skins working. Check it out http://www.shasam.net
Regards,
Shane.

April 16th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Looks great — but is there any way to make a version of it that’s fluid width? I hate wasting screen real estate…
April 16th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Love the theme!
I’m wondering if you have icons and a pluging available to add permalink | print | email links at the bottom of each post?
Thanks!
April 16th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
I have been looking for a cool theme for the last month and have gone through 3 dozen themes (literally). iTheme is just AWESOME! A couple of folks have already asked me about it and I have pointed them to this site. My only wish list: a 3 colum version.
April 16th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Really love the theme, nice and rich!
April 16th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
I love the theme and edited a little bit…I’m wondering how can I change the feed location? I want my feed to run through feedburner, but it’s now seems to use the direct feed…
April 16th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
Nikita,
I use the Feeburner Feed Replacement Plugin - makes it easy and seamless.
http://orderedlist.com/wordpress-plugins/feedburner-plugin/
Regards,
Shane.
April 16th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
THis is the WP Press theme I’ve been searching for. Thanks!
You know, throw some Open Office widgets on here and multilayers of ajax for window management, you probably got a prototype for a web-based OS on your hands.
April 16th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Nick,
Can’t figure out why I can’t move sidebars. I don’t get the little circle in the corner of them either. Also would like the posts to list the author. I have seen it on other themes.
This is an amazing theme none the less!
April 16th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
First, this is an awesome theme. But I definitely get different results based on browser.
OSX/Safari - perfect
OSX/Firefox - perfect
WinXP/Firefox - perfect
WinXP/IE7 - perfect
WinXP/IE6 - the sidebar is at the bottom of the pagae and the post area bleeds over in to where thesidebar is usually located.
Anywhere official to go for help?

April 17th, 2007 at 4:50 am
really love it.thanks.
April 17th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
To Chris #110, I’m having the same problem with the sidebar, though you seem to have worked yours out. I’m able to move your sidebar boxes around.
Still having trouble with mine, though. Someone help, please!
Chris, to add author credit, add this line to your index.php file:
April 17th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Chris- Yours is working in Firefox only, not in IE6.
April 17th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Matt,
Looking at the media that is being loaded by your site via Firefox/Tools/Page Info, yours doesn’t seem to be loading all of the graphics elements of the theme - the main one being sidep-toggle.png
I can see that it exists in http://www.lightreaders.com/home/wp-content/themes/itheme/images/sidep-toggle.png
but for some reason they are not being loaded, which makes me think the dbx scripts and css are either corrupted, missing or you’ve changed something from default in the theme.
If you haven’t already - try deleting the whole itheme directory on your site, re-uploading it and seeing what happens.
Regards,
Shane.
April 17th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Post #111 - fixed. IE6 was not handling a picture in one of my posts that was apparently too large. Firefox, Safari, and IE7 cropped the photo, but IE6 showed the entire photo, forcing the resizing of the post area out to the right. I reduced the size of the picture and everything looks as expected in all browsers.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
sorry to sound completely stupid, but how do i use this :-/
April 18th, 2007 at 2:15 am
Bug: When there are many sub-pages, their line would wrap. However, the background of their line doesn’t wrap correctly.
Thanks!
April 18th, 2007 at 3:41 am

Hey,
Thanks for this wonderful theme! I loved it…
Just a quick query - I have to increase the size of blog TEXT space keeping the sidebar size and everything intact.
How to do that tuning..??
Cheers!
April 18th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
I appreciate, if someone could answer to my question!
Can some one please tell me how to use this theme for wordpress? i dont have a webspace. but i have an account in wordpress, would like to host it from wordpress.

April 18th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Thanks for your help, Shane. I did what you suggested and it didn’t help in Firefox, but when I checked in IE6, it worked just fine. I about had a heart attack.
I’ve tracked the problem to one of my plugins. The HighSlide plug (http://projects.jesseheap.com/all-projects/wordpress-highslide-js-plugin/) doesn’t like iTheme in Firefox. I have it loaded still, for now, until I can work on doing manually what highslide does.
Again, thanks for getting me started.
Judy- I don’t have a wordpress hosted account, but it looks like they have a set group of themes that you can use. Request that iTheme be added, and maybe they will. It wouldn’t surprise me to see iTheme added quickly. It really is the best one I’ve seen, regardless of my trouble with it.

Hello, thank you for this beautiful theme, I love it! I have a small issue and hope you can help me out. I have created a custom header for my blog but the standard title with a link to my homepage appears over it. How do I remove it? I’ve tried to change the CSS settings but my header image has a gradient on it so it’s impossible to camouflage it.
With other wordpress themes I’ve used removing the title and description from the options panel usually does the trick. It doesn’t work on the theme. What else can be done?
Thanks for the time,
Niaomi.

Matt,
I have the exact same issue.
If I enable the HighSlide plugin, sidebar drag’n drop feature doesn’t work.
It looks like the plugin overwrites the window.onLoad function.
I’m using IE7.

niaomi n,
The quick “brute force” approach is to comment-out or delete the following in itheme’s header.php:
“>
Just in case you’re not sure hoe - add a after this section to comment it out.
Regards,
Shane.
April 18th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Dammit - can’t paste code in the comments here.
In the default itheme header.php - the lines you want to comment out are lines 32 and 33.
Regards,
Shane.

Thanks Shane!
I will give it a go :)

You should try to display this theme with firefox 2 mac… there’s a lot of broken styles.
How could I send you a screenshot of what my FF display ?
April 19th, 2007 at 10:03 am
SugarDaddy,
I am on Mac and use Safari and Firefox 2.0.0.3, and I have no issues with styles.
If you want to post a picture of what you mean - try either flickr.com or imageshack.com and give us the link.
Regards,
Shane.

SugarDaddy,
One other thing I just thought of - do you have Javascript enabled or disabled in Firefox (in Firefox/Preferences/Content)?
This theme requires Javascript to be running in the browser to load and handle the dynamic sidebar boxes.
Regards,
Shane.

Shane - Just saw your site, and you did something I’ve been trying to - turn the hyperlinks the same blue as the title rollovers - I’ve got the color code, but cannot find the link code anywhere. Where is it???!!

hi, i love this them… but i have problems with permalinks.-.. does anyone have problems with it?
April 19th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Umm… Not sure what you mean by comment out. I’m fairly new to php, I usually work with html. Can you tell what you mean? Should I delete some lines? Which lines are they? My understanding of lines 32 and 33 on the header.php are
Should I removes these?
Thanks.

Do you have any problem?
April 20th, 2007 at 4:54 am
yes.. undefine functions…. i do not know why… pls help em.. thanks.. pls read at my previous post… :) thanks
April 20th, 2007 at 5:49 am
download theme again and install it.
May be the problem is with wordpress not with theme :) good luck
April 20th, 2007 at 7:42 am
cyrixware - the theme has been proven no “undefined function get_header” error. Double check your WordPress installation and make sure your XAMPP version and SQL server support WordPress.
niaomi - to type code in comment form, please use HTML character entities. For example, instead of typing “<” type “<”

Hi Nick, this theme is spectacular, many thanks for all your hard work.
You asked for feedback, so here’s my tuppenethworth; it doesn’t run as smoothly in IE6. There’s a break between posts. I blame Microsoft, not you, but that’s how it is!
Also, is there an easy way to change the background wallpaper?
April 20th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
I appreciate your work and am about to install itheme. The theme is very fine and fits quite well with my site (www.niksnexus.net) and I thank you, despite a slow grumbling misgiving about the burgeoning corporater mainstream bigness of the mac - tho of course there is no real option (’bin using macs since way back last millenium after upgrading from my 40MB HD (4MB RAM)toshiba laptop running DOS! which reminds me of the bumpersticker”Just Say No to DOS, but I digress)
Is there a way to easily customize the widgets - ie move the ‘pages’ banner from top to side bar, etc…
Thanks all the same
April 20th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
also - the edit/admin link bottom each post/meta area disapears when loading iTheme leaving no link back to my admin area.
April 20th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
Nik (#151) -
You just need to add the line “<?php wp_register(); ?>” into the sidebar section of your functions.php file.
April 20th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Nik-
Correction:
<li class=”login”><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>

Bulent - I’m working on the IE6 bugs and a CSS dock menu (still testing). Next release will be compatible with all browsers that support Javascript.
April 21st, 2007 at 11:00 pm
I add categories and it still says NO CATEGORIES. Why is this?
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:51 am
Good luck with going for the IE bugs :) Love this theme.. alot :) This is the best one I found so far for my webb-tv site.
April 22nd, 2007 at 7:15 pm
GREAT theme… i have no words for it really :) I use it like default theme on my blog! Really nice and professional work done!
Congratulations!
April 23rd, 2007 at 2:13 am
Nice theme and I use it, but… how to add items to the sidebar? I cannot see an interface for the integration of common widgets like Daiko’s Video Widget - and cannot find a readme.txt which should explain how to integrate anything in the sidebar.php, between the tags:
NAME
???????????????????
Thank you for any help!
April 23rd, 2007 at 5:30 am
To Martin:
This theme is without Widget plugin. If you want to add items to the sidebar, you should try Sidebar Widget or modify the “sidebar.php” in your theme folder manually.

I’m always looking for mac theme feel, but it’s very rare. So I really love this theme. My favourite…
April 24th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
I really like this theme! Thanks so much for creating it. My question is: How do I change the order of how the pages appear on the navigation bar on top? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just noticed two interesting…features (maybe they’re bugs, maybe not).
1) In the index page view, blog posts display their dates, but no categories.
2) In the individual post view, posts display their categories, but no date.
Maybe the easiest way around this is to use the little calendar page icons from the GlossyBlue theme to mark each blog post (in either view), while keeping the categories listed under the title.
My $0.02,
Sam

Curly- More of a general wordpress question, here’s a link to the answer. The short version is that you can’t have complete control.
But! I found a plugin that should allow you to do it without rebuilding everything from the ground up. I haven’t needed to try it personally, but try this one.
Also, this scheduler widget is awesome. Maybe that could open up some room on the menu bar.
April 25th, 2007 at 1:46 pm
I’ve read the other posts here, and WP info on headers, but my header.php file looks nothing like I’m reading it should. There is a large blank space, followed by a blue “Home”, then just seven lines of type that don’t look like any header file I’ve seen elsewhere. So I can’t add meta text or replace my header properly. I downloaded again, but same file. Am I crazy? How do I replace the header in this file?
April 25th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
nick - you have to edit the header.php file in plain text or source code mode (use notepad instead of WYSIWYG editor).
April 25th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
thanks Nick

Just wondering if you have any advice on making this theme work with WPG2?
